I served in the army as a combat engineer and was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Due to the battles, I’ve been suffering from injuries that at the time of serving I did not notice I had. Through Fairways for Warriors I’ve learned that no matter what injuries we have as soldiers, we are not done fighting. We as soldiers are trained to drive on no matter what the circumstances are, but when I got to the real world “home” I felt incomplete. After being medically discharged, for me the world stopped in that note. To explain, I had no country, no flag, and most important no brothers to fight for so I, like every other respected veteran isolated myself from the civilian world because no one understood our way of life. No one followed our values that we learned and respect, so for me it brought me to the point that I didn’t want to exist anymore. Tom Underdown, now you sir, you are a savior of lives, our hero. There are no words to describe the sacrifices and work you put into us and for that I am very thankful. My family is strong because of you and Fairways for Warriors and I’ve met a new family, my brothers, I’d like to thank all of you brave fighters because I found camaraderie again. Thank you Tom, you are a true example of all the values we follow as service men and women. By the way did I forget to mention that I love golf now?
